About
In 1997 while working a retail job and attending College of the Redwoods and serving part time in the Army National Guard, I saw a job advertisement that asked for someone to come work with their 4-year-old child with autism. Autism was something I had very little knowledge of, but I did like working with children and thought it was a good way to get some skills and learn something new. I did not know that working with that child would then change my whole career path.
Over the next 25 years I was able to accomplish all goals I had set out for myself (and some I didn’t). At Humboldt State University, I obtained my BA in Psychology and MA in Education with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis as well as becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). In early 2000’s was able to start my own behavior business and became a vendor of the Redwood Coast Regional Center as a Behavior Management Assistant before getting offered a job to work for one of the first behavior agencies in Humboldt County that specialized in applied behavior analytic work. During my time working for this agency, I was able to go from direct 1:1 work with clients to being promoted to Clinical Director of the agency, whom at the time, served clients in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino and Lake Counties. My duties as Clinical Director included recruiting and hiring staff, interviewing potential families for intake, completing intakes of new clients, creating the office budget, providing ABA directly to clients and their family as well as managing/supervising/mentoring the consultants and 1:1 staff.
As that agency grew, I saw the need for me to start my career over with a smaller local behavior agency and joined them as a Behavior Consultant. After working with that agency for almost a year, they offered me the Clinical Supervisor position at their sister behavior agency. As the Clinical Supervisor I was tasked with every aspect of behavior work from direct work with clients, making visual supports, training new and existing staff, providing direct teaching to parents on how they can be the best parent for their child and supervising and leading our communities next generation of behaviorist to know how to work within the confines of Applied Behavior Analysis but give a humanistic approach to the work.
During my tenure as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst I have been able to work with a myriad of people with developmental disabilities. A majority of my training, education and direct client work has been with people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, I have provided behavioral therapy to people with a broad range of developmental disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, ADHD, Global Intellectual Delay, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy and more.
