Sapience Therapeutic Farms

At Sapience Therapeutic Farms participants will learn social engagement, functional communication skills, self-regulation skills, other individualized developmental skills per the needs of our participants through hands on activities from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) utilizing applied behavioral analysis (ABA).  By having the curriculum taught by a BCBA, clients will be able to engage in a well-rounded therapeutic environment that can utilize behavioral strategies to increase individualized skills and decrease maladaptive behaviors.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn and complete various horticultural activities such as, cultivation of plants, nurture and care for plants, harvest a variety of fruits and process them for sales or preserving, work with our flock of chickens  or hives of bees, as well as being surrounded by nature.  All of the activities that the participants engage will have therapeutic value, will be geared to the participant’s individual needs or goals and will work to support the participant while at the farm, at home or in the community.

Vision

At Sapience Therapeutic Farms, we sow the seeds of possibilities that cultivate independent skills, community, and wisdom.

Mission

On our farm we welcome all people.  We work with people who have developmental disabilities, behavioral issues, veterans and all community members who want to gain the needed skills that will help them live full independent lives through growing, nurturing, harvesting and selling farm products.  Sapience Therapeutic Farms participants will learn how to communicate with peers, farmer’s market customers, and other farmers in an atmosphere of nature, animals, and understanding each individual participant needs.  Sapience Therapeutic Farms offers applied behavioral analysis-based interventions that are taught in a nature-based setting that will teach skills to foster independence and job skills.

Philosophy

Sapience Therapeutic Farms staff are not tasked with doing things for participants; instead, participants and staff work alongside one another in partnership. This fosters mutual respect, equality, and independence.
